Scope of Work
BHP acquired the OZ Minerals West Musgrave Project in 2023 who had previously enlisted the services of GR Engineering to undertake the Engineering, Procurement, Management and Construction for a 12 Mtpa Mineral Processing Plant (MPP). The Project involves a hybrid contracting approach, with BHP executing all contracts and GR Engineering being responsible for the overall project management, design and procurement under an EPCM contract.
In addition to the MPP bulk earthworks managed by BHP, GR Engineering is managing the civil contractor plus self- executing the structural, mechanical, piping and electrical works within the MPP. Mipac a fully owned subsidiary of GR Engineering is self-executing the instrumentation installation contract.
- A high level of instrumentation for effective monitoring, feedback and control of the MPP;
- Remote plant control from an Integrated Operations Centre (IOC), located off-site, facilitating monitoring, control and planning functions;
- Minimisation of the need for on-site operations and maintenance personnel, ensuring efficiency and targeted interventions when required;
- Equipment selection and layout accessibility within the MPP will prioritise safety, ergonomics, engagement and ease of use.
Key considerations for maintenance include:
- Minimising the need for on-site maintenance personnel through the provision of appropriate infrastructure, such as fixed cranes;
- Targeted, efficient and flexible maintenance through decoupling of areas, enabling activities to be conducted on an area-by-area basis and minimising disruptions to planned or unplanned maintenance events within the MPP.
