Wassa Underground Paste Backfill Project

Scope of Work

Golden Star Resources (GSR) Ltd owns and operates the Wassa gold project located 150 km west of Accra, the capital of Ghana in West Africa. After participating in a tender process, GR Engineering was awarded an EPC contract to undertake all design works (including a substantial underground reticulation network to gravitate paste to stopes) and supply all equipment and materials necessary to construct and commission the paste plant. GSR are responsible for the supply and installation of all concrete works and the erection of the facility – with technical assistance from GR Engineering personnel who will also assist with commissioning.

The paste plant is designed to produce 133 m³/h of backfill and incorporates two duty and one standby 120 m² ceramic disc filters. The ceramic filters are more power efficient than traditional fabric bag disc filters and require less routine maintenance. The paste plant also includes a 25 m diameter thickener, a 1000 tonne capacity binder silo and associated binder dosing systems.
