Scope of Work
GR Engineering Services Limited (GRES) was awarded the EPC contract for the Abra Base Metals Project in August 2021 by Galena Mining Limited. The 1.2 Mtpa concentrator plant and non-process infrastructure scope was based on the process design established for the project during feasibility studies, all of which were completed by GRES.
Ore is mined from underground and delivered to the ROM pad from where it is loaded into the ROM bin and primary crushing circuit. The ore is crushed in three stages to minus 13 mm and stored in a fine ore bin. The ore is then ground in a ball mill circuit to P80 of 150 microns ahead of the Lead flotation circuit. Rougher and scavenger flotation stages are utilised to produce a bulk concentrate for the Lead regrind circuit after which a cleaner flotation circuit is used. The final concentrate is then thickened and filtered in preparation for transport to the port in ½ height lidded shipping containers.
GRES also relocated and refurbished a Paste Back-fill plant from the old Higginsville workings to the Abra Project. The paste plant had been decommissioned following completion of underground mining at the Higginsville operation.
The value of the overall Contract for the concentrator and paste plant works was approximately $90 Million.
Construction for the concentrator plant commenced in November 2021 and ore commissioning commenced in January 2023 with practical completion achieved ahead of the contract schedule in March 2023.
