Allied Gold Limited award study to upgrade the Simberi gold plant to three million tonnes per year.

Allied Gold Limited (ASX: ALD) today announced the award of an upgrade study to GR Engineering Services. The study will investigate plant debottlenecking and expansion options to achieve nameplate throughput to 3.0 Mtpa to ensure average annual gold production exceeds 100,000 ounces.

Allied Gold Limited has determined that the additional processing capacity is required due to a significant increase (additional 437,000 ounces) in Simberi ore reserves to above one million ounces. This represents a mine life extension to 10 years.

The Simberi project is located on Simberi island, a volcanic island in the Tabar Group in Papua New Guinea's New Ireland Province located around 430 km north-east of Port Moresby.

The study will be completed in the third quarter of 2009.
